Who can vote in the BVV elections?

You have the right to vote for the BVV in your district if you:

  • are a citizen of a member state of the European Union
  • are at least 16 years old on election day (20 September 2026)
  • have been registered as a resident in Berlin for at least three months, meaning since no later than 20 June 2026

If you are eligible to vote, you can also stand as a candidate for the BVV in your district. To do so, you must be at least 18 years old and eligible to stand for election.

bulb Since 1992, EU citizens have had the same rights as nationals to participate in local and European elections in the EU member state where they live.

Do you also hold a German passport? If so, you can vote in the elections for the Berlin House of Representatives as well as the the BVV elections.
