You are not in Berlin on election day?

You are busy on election day or can’t go to the polling station? No problem: You have two options:

First: Apply for a postal vote [Briefwahl]

Apply for your postal vote documents [Briefwahlunterlagen] in good time. To do this, simply scan the QR code on the back of your election notification. You can apply online to vote by post until 15 September 2026. After that, you can still request a postal vote in writing (by email or post) from your district election office [Wahlamt deines Bezirks] until 3 pm on 18 September 2026. Applications can not be made by telephone.

Second: Vote in person before election day

You can vote in person before election day at a postal voting centre in your district election office [Briefwahlstelle deines Bezirks]. The addresses and opening hours can be found on your polling notification [Wahlbenachrichtigung]. Please bring your polling notification [Wahlbenachrichtigung] and your ID card or passport

Vote at a different polling station

You can also vote at a different polling station [Wahllokal] on election day. In this case, apply for a postal vote. You can vote at a different polling station [Wahllokal] with your polling card [Wahlschein].

Important: The polling station must be in the same voting district, as the polling station address on your polling card [Wahlschein]. Bring your polling card [Wahlschein] as well as your passport or ID card on election day.

Procedure for postal voting:

  • You will receive the documents by post.
  • Only fill in the street, house number, postcode and city if you have a different address than the one at the top of your polling card [Wahlschein].
  • If you crossed the ballot paper yourself, make sure you sign the postal voting declaration (Versicherung an Eides statt zur Briefwahl) on the lower half of the polling card [Wahlschein].
  • If someone helped you to place the cross, then they must sign the polling card [Wahlschein] and fill in their full name and address.
  • Place the completed ballot paper [Stimmzettel] in the white ballot paper envelope [weißen Stimmzettelumschlag] and seal it.
  • Place this and the completed polling card [Wahlschein] in the red election envelope [roten Wahlbriefumschlag] and seal it.
  • • Return the red envelope via post. A stamp is not necessary.
