Not in Berlin on election day?

Can’t make it to the polling station on election day or don’t have time? No problem: you have two options:

Option 1: Apply for postal vote

Apply for your postal voting documents in time. You can easily use the QR code on the back of your election notification. You can apply for postal voting online until 15 September 2026. After that, you can still request postal voting in writing (by email or post) until 18 September 2026, 3pm at your district’s electoral office. Telephone requests are not possible.

Option 2: Vote in person beforehand

You can already vote before election day at a postal vote office in your district. The addresses and opening hours are listed on your election notification. Please bring your election notification as well as your ID card or passport.

bulbVoting at a different polling station

You can also vote at a different polling station on election day. For this, you need to apply for postal voting documents in advance. With the voting certificate you can vote at a different polling station.

Important: The polling station must be in the same constituency as stated on your voting certificate. Bring your voting certificate as well as your ID card or passport on election day.

Postal vote process:

  • You will receive the documents by post.
  • Street and house number as well as postcode and city only need to be filled in if you have a different address than the one on the voting certificate.
  • If you made the cross on the ballot paper yourself, please sign the lower half of the voting certificate – the statutory declaration for postal voting.
  • If a helper assisted you in placing the cross, the helper must sign the voting certificate and enter their full name and address.
  • Place the completed ballot paper in the white ballot envelope and seal it.
  • Put this together with the completed voting certificate in the red ballot envelope and seal it too.
  • Send the ballot by post. No stamp is needed.
