Just four more days to the elections! If you’ve missed something and are panicking about it, we have some useful tips for you.
I’ve lost my Wahlbenachrichtigung (election voting card).
Have you accidentally thrown your Wahlbenachrichtigung away? Not a problem. You only need your ID card or passport to vote at your local polling station. Berlin’s polling stations will be open from 08:00 to 18:00.
I don’t know where my local polling station is.
You lost your Wahlbenachrichtigung and didn’t note down where your local polling station is? No need to worry, you can use the Wahllokalfinder (local polling-station finder). Just enter your address to find out where you go to vote on 18 September 2016.
I recently moved house within Berlin and didn’t receive a Wahlbenachrichtigung at my new address.
If you moved to a new address within Berlin after 7 August 2016, you remain registered to vote at your previous address. You may therefore only cast your vote at the polling station that is valid for your old address.
I’m not in Berlin on Sunday or have no time to vote.
It doesn’t matter if a last-minute holiday or change of shift keeps you away, something might have come to your notice just this week that means you won’t be able to cast your vote on Sunday. Yes, we even have a solution for this circumstance: you can vote before the election! You can go to a Briefwahlstelle (a “vote-by-post” office) in your borough until Friday 16 September to vote. You only need to bring your passport. You can find a list of Briefwahlstellen here. Take note of the opening hours!
